Starting Position

BELS (Building European Links Toward South-East Asia in the field of EGNSS) is a project funded by the European Union under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Lead by ISMB, the project involves several partners from R&D, academia, and industry. The main objective of the BELS project is to facilitate the breakthrough of European Global Navigation Satellite Systems (EGNSS) technology and increase the collaboration between Europe and South East Asia (SEA), a fast growing market of more than 600 million people. Therefore BELS is conducting a set of coordinated activities to raise awareness and build capacities for the exploitation of GNSS technologies with a strong focus on industrial partnership and support to enterprises.

The BELS special prize addresses smart young entrepreneurs and researchers from South East Asia, who will gain the possibility to interact with European companies and research centres. Participation is strictly limited to citizens of the ASEAN countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Singapore). BELS is looking for innovative downstream applications based on GNSS/Galileo. The proposed ideas or solutions will be evaluated by a European panel of experts based on the following criteria:

  • Innovativeness of the idea
  • Relevance to GNSS/Galileo
  • Relevance to SEA society
  • Technological feasibility
  • Quality of the proposed solution
